Life drawing

Some drawings from life drawing from the evening and day classes.

Chester zoo drawings

I went to Chester zoo yesterday and took my sketchpad. Note -the only animals that stay still and pose are lions and flamingos! I tryed to get the main movement and character of the animals in each pose. Done in marker and biro.

Shattered Dreams

These are the first iteration of sketches done for a project i have been set. The first set of sketches show 3 different styles for the game concept. The second page shows the chosen one in coloured pencils. The main aspect is that the driver would be able to see all the cars through reflections as the windscreen shatters to allow him to shift to the car of his choice.

Excelsior movie poster

This week in the visual development module i have been tasked with creating promotional material for the movie. When composing the poster i looked at the legend Drew Struzan as he has painted almost all of the blockbuster movie posters specifically all of the star wars posters! I experimented with various formats from portrait to landscape. In the end i went with the portrait as it complimented the composition i wanted. The antagonist looms large over the protagonist and his love interest who looks back at a key scene in the movie- the destruction of the upper city. I added text just to make it look more like a poster. The whole process from concept to finished sheet took just over 2 days.

I prefer the colours in the poster above as they seem more harmonious

The above colours were the original colours i chose, purple for the villan, oranges for the protagonists

Above are a few of the colour choices that i looked at.

I started this painting in grey scale first to lay down the tonal values then I painted on the colour

Above are the initial concept sketches, these are very rough and done quickly to experiment with
composition, mood, colour and lighting

Concept generation and development

The images below show the process i go through to create rapid iterations. I start with black marker silhouette drawings to experiment with shapes and form, then go into grey scale sketches to show details and finally a quick colour wash. These ideas are open to change and further development before final polished rendering begins.

Concept art Practice module - videogame concept art

In this module i am doing concept art for a videogame . I have come up with "Loua" which is a videogame concept that is based on voodoo culture. In western society we have come to associate voodoo with zombies and black magic. However when researching voodoo i found that it is a religon based on the idea of a family of spirits called "Loua" Depending on the persons origins , african or Haitian the spirits differ. They are anthropomorphic which is why i have drawn them with human clothing and based them on african animals. When designing the enviroment i was thinking of an african jungle with lots of trees, ancient buildings and death traps. I want to design more enviroments for this game and explore the design of traps and interiors.

Concept art Practice module - sketchbook ideas
